Magdalena Fręch (106. WTA) i Katarzyna Kawa (163. WTA) were the only Polish women to qualify for the main bracket of the WTA 1000 tournament Indian Wells. The first round matches were played on Monday.

Fręch defended three set balls
23-year-old Magdalena Fręch was the favorite of her match. She faced her peer, Australian Lizette Cabrera (167. WTA). Both tennis players played against each other two years ago in the qualifying semi-final in the hard court tournament in Zhengzhou. Then the Polish girl probably won 6: 3, 6: 3.
Now, in the first set, Fręch was leading 4: 2, but since then she lost three games in a row and was broken twice. In the tenth game, Cabrera had three set balls, but did not use them. There was a tie-break, in which Fręch quickly took the high lead 5: 1 and confidently won 7: 2.
In the second game, Cabrera failed to win any of their four service games. And although the Pole lost her application twice, she probably won 6: 2. Fręch won as much as 74 percent in the match. balls after the first pass (Australian 54%).
28-year-old Katarzyna Kawa also advanced to the qualifying finals in Indian Wells in two sets. The Polish woman won 6: 3, 6: 1 about a year older than herself, Argentinian Paula Ormaechea (223rd WTA). One break in favor of Kawa decided the fate of the first party. In the second game, the Argentinian never won her application.

In the qualifying final, Fręch will play against Canadian Rebecca Marino (157th WTA), and Kawa will play against the winner of the match: Kirsten Flipkens (Belgium, 132nd WTA) – Theadora Rabman (USA).
