Magdalena Eriksson: It is undignified

Sweden started well against England and created several chances early in the match. But the goals did not come, and England went into the half-time break with the lead.

– I think we do a hell of a lot right in the first 30 minutes. We could have scored two or three goals, they had nothing. When they score, it shows how much goals change match pictures, says a crying Magdalena Eriksson to SVT Sport.

– It will be too big a mountain for us to climb in this match. But it is undignified with 4-0.

“It’s been tough”

Eriksson believes it has been difficult that the national team had several covid cases and injuries during the tournament.

– A lot has gone against us. There have been players lost here and there all the time, it’s tough. We have had to change a lot in the back line, which is difficult.

– You depend on luck in tournaments. The fact that we have had to work and change the starting eleven has an effect, she says.

“The match does not define us”

Eriksson believes that one must learn from the loss for future tournaments.

– We must reflect and learn from what we have been through. This match does not define us. We have moments when we do really well. We have to learn from the moments when we do less well, she says.

– We want to thank the fans. I am so grateful for the fans, she concludes.
