Magda Linette starts at the US Open. She already knows that the stands will be against her

Magda Linette’s (42nd WTA) best performance in the US Open so far? 2020 and the third round of the tournament. The goal for the edition that is just starting is clear – to take at least one step forward.

The inaugural challenge is a big unknown. The Poznań player will face 16-year-old Iva Jović in her first appearance. The hosts’ representative is only 389th in the world rankings.

– We had time to analyze her game, but it was much harder to find materials. We searched, we know something. I have a preliminary outline of her game – Linette assures in an interview with Eurosport.

Jović received a “wild card” from the organizers. This is a reward for good performances in the junior Grand Slam events. The teenager reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and the semifinals of Wimbledon this year. She also has two doubles triumphs (Australian Open, Wimbledon).

Participating in the senior US Open is the biggest event in Jović’s tennis adventure to date. Linette will be playing against her for the first time.

– It is obvious that she will definitely have 100% support. I know what to expect. But she is a girl I have never seen live. I will have to learn her game on an ongoing basis – predicts the 32-year-old tennis player.

Linete also assures us of her good mental condition, which may prove to be a key factor in the competition at Flushing Meadows.

– I feel better, definitely calmer. I have the impression that I have gained some distance at some point and I think that is visible above all on the court. That I am calmer, less emotional, I make better decisions and I think that I am also more often able to turn the tide of the match. I hope that it will last as long as possible – she added.
