“Magallanes Health Service brings mobile mammography to all corners of the region for early detection of breast cancer”

Mammography is one of the essential tests to detect breast cancer. Hence the importance of women have this test.

That is why the activity carried out at the headquarters of the Río de la Mano neighborhood association was highlighted, to where the mobile mammograph of the Magallanes Health Service was taken, in order to participate in a new day of “family health center on the ground”. , organized on this occasion by the yellow sector of the Juan Damianovic health center.

The activity considered the care of 15 Fonasa users with an indication for mammography, thus guaranteeing women’s access to this type of examination, essential for early detection of breast cancer, the leading cause of death in women in the Magallanes Region.

“This year’s idea is to be able to reach all places within the region, and also those that are more extreme, such as Puerto Williams and Porvenir,” said Cristopher Núñez, a reference Hospital Digital and Mobile Mammographer of the Magallanes Health Service.

The Cesfam midwife, Paula Rojas, said that “access to the mobile device is for all women who have their mammogram overdue and their age is between 40 and 69 years.”

These attentions are not by spontaneous consultation and access is for all patients of all Cesfam, having a prior appointment.

Although mammography is the only way to detect breast cancer early, through breast self-examination it is important to be attentive to the warning signs of this disease: nodule or lump in the breast or armpit; thickening or swelling of a part of the breast; irritation or sinking in the skin of the breast; redness or scaling in the nipple or breast area; nipple collapse or pain in that area; nipple discharge (non-dairy); and any changes in the size or shape of the breast, are the suggestions of Health.
