The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) will hold a workshop this month in the country to reinforce controls and prevention actions to avoid risks of avian influenza, to that extent the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) will provide tools to strengthen sanitary fences in the country, which, at the moment, is free of positive cases of avian flu, authorities said.
The workshop will be on April 23 and will be taught by a PAHO advisor, in which representatives of the ministries of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS), Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), as well as the National Council of Protected Areas will participate. (CONAP).
On behalf of MAGA, delegates from the Poultry Health (PROSA), National Swine Health (PRONASPORC) programs, and the Department of Epidemiological Surveillance and Risk Analysis will attend. The presence of national poultry farmers is also expected.
“Guatemala is free of highly pathogenic avian influence, thanks to the actions of epidemiological surveillance, biosecurity, preventive vaccination and control of the movement of birds and poultry products in the national territory,” the institution notes.
