China International Marine Containers (CIMC) will take over all of the organization and assets of Maersk Container Industry (MCI), previously owned by AP Moller Maersk. With this, Maersk concludes the strategic review of Maersk Container Industry, which was announced on Capital Markets Day in May 2021.
CIMC will take over the entire organization and assets of MCI, including the reefer plant in Qingdao, China, and the research, development and testing facilities in Tinglev, Denmark.
“We believe we have found a good long-term owner for MCI in CIMC. The MCI divestment is part of AP Moller – Maersk’s business restructuring, which focuses on being an integrated container transport and logistics company that spans over the entire supply chain creates customer benefit, “says Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, CEO of Fleet & Strategic Brands at AP Moller – Maersk.

MCI was founded by Maersk in 1991 and has been part of the company for more than 30 years. Over the years, MCI has grown into a company that focuses exclusively on the manufacture of reefer containers and in 2020 achieved the best result since its inception.
The transaction is valued at $ 987.3 million. The transaction is expected to close in 2022 or earlier. Until the transaction is completed, CIMC and MCI will remain two separate companies and will continue to operate as usual.
