They finance the artistic training, internships and projects of Spanish and foreign artists. The application deadlines are open until January, February or March, depending on the call.
The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has convened the MAEC-AECID Scholarships for Art, Education and Culture 2021-2022, made up of several programs that finance artistic training, internships, and artistic projects in higher education centers, both for Spaniards and foreigners.
The objective of these scholarships is to promote culture, art, science and education as a means of international projection of Spain abroad, as well as to reinforce the relevance of these areas as fundamental tools for development.
The scholarships include a monthly allowance, travel aid, registration with Social Security, travel assistance insurance for those destined abroad and travel bags to carry out activities related to the work of its affiliation center.
The call is divided into different programs, which have different application deadlines. All are carried out through the AECID electronic headquarters, and information on scholarships and internships for the 2021/2022 call are available at www.aecid.gob.es:
Scholarships for Spaniards and EU citizens
General requirements:
· Have the Spanish nationality or another country of the EU.
· Do not exceed 27 years as of December 31, 2021.
· Possess a university degree.
· Possess knowledge of the language of the destination country.
· Scholarships for the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome (RAER)
They are aimed at people who are artists, creators or researchers to develop artistic or creative projects, or research projects that are linked to Rome or the Academy. Among the specialties where projects can be developed are History of Art, Sculpture, Painting, Photography, Design, Literature, Cinema, Gastronomy or Museology, among others.
Scholarships can be apply until February 1, and will have a minimum duration of one month and a maximum of 8 months. Internships will begin in January 2022, running through September. The monthly endowment will be 1,200 euros, in addition to accommodation at the Academy and a travel aid. The amount assigned to each project will not exceed 20,000 euros.
· Scholarships for training in cultural management and scientific diplomacy in the foreign network of diplomatic representations, cultural centers in Spain and in the AECID
Scholars must choose between the specialty of cultural management or science diplomacy, and will participate in activities and research in destination countries.
The destinations for science diplomacy are Germany, Belgium, China, Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom; and among those of cultural management are Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Tunisia, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Japan, China and Latin American countries. The monthly allowances vary between 1,200 and 2,200 euros, depending on the destination. These scholarships start in October 2021 or March 2022 and end in June or November 2022 depending on the destination. The application period is open from January 25th.
· Training grants in cooperation for development in the Training Centers of the Spanish Cooperation in Latin America
The purpose of this program is to grant training scholarships for development cooperation in the area of knowledge management in the AECID Training Centers in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), La Antigua (Guatemala), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia). Two scholarships will be awarded per center.
The beneficiaries will participate in activities and research of the centers. The object of the research work will be on the dynamization of concrete actions of the Intercoonecta Plan, the strengthening of communities and networks of actors of the Spanish Cooperation, the generation of transversal knowledge, knowledge management and communication or cultural management.
The scholarships last from November 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022. The application period is open from January 25th. The monthly allowance will be 1,400 or 1,500 euros, depending on the destination, plus a maximum aid of 1,200 euros for the trip.
· Scholarships for the College of Europe
They are aimed at university graduates in legal, economic, political-sociological studies or international relations who have been selected by the College of Europe to study one of their master’s degrees. The scholarships are used to finance the master’s studies offered by Colegio Europa:
Master in European Economic Studies
Master in European Law
Master in European Political and Administrative Studies
Master’s Degree in EU International Relations and Diplomatic Studies
· Master in European Interdisciplinary Studies.
The deadline for submitting applications will be open from February 22 to March 8. The scholarships will last from September 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. The monthly award will be 2,000 euros.
Scholarships for citizens of partner countries of Spanish Cooperation, from countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia
General requirements:
· Not having a residence permit in Spain or being in a situation of study stay in Spain.
· Not having been a beneficiary of a scholarship of 6 or more months under any program of the call for MAEC-AECID Scholarships 2020-2021.
· Program of artistic and research residencies for the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome (RAER) for Ibero-American citizens
The beneficiaries, artists or researchers, must choose between developing artistic or creative projects, or research projects that are linked to Rome or the Academy. Among the specialties to choose from are History of Art, Sculpture, Painting, Photography, Design, Literature, Cinema, Gastronomy or Museology, among others.
Scholarships can be applied for until February 1. The duration of these is from one to eight months, within the period from January 16, 2022 to September 15, 2022. They include a monthly allowance of 1,200 euros, accommodation at the Academy and travel assistance.
· Scholarships for training collaboration at the headquarters of the Academies associated with the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE)
Directed to university graduates in subjects related to Hispanic linguistics and philology residents in the country with headquarters of the Associated Academy of the RAE, where the training collaboration stay will take place. The objective of these scholarships is to train experts in Hispanic linguistics, lexicography and philology.
Applicants must have the nationality of one of the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Philippines, Guatemala, Equatorial Guinea, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela. In addition, they must have a university degree related to the subjects of Linguistics or Hispanic Philology, and not be older than 45 years.
The application period is open from January 18 to February 1. The scholarships will last from September 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022. The monthly award will be 750 euros.
· Master’s degree scholarships for civil servants and staff integrated in the public systems of priority countries of Spanish Cooperation
These scholarships are intended to offer the opportunity to study official Master’s degrees in Spain for civil servants or personnel integrated in foreign public systems. Scholarships will also be awarded to Filipino professors from universities or public educational centers, to study a university or own master’s degree at a Spanish university, and for the Interuniversity Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Relations (Development Cooperation module) of the Diplomatic School of Spain.
The application period will be open from February 8 to 26. The scholarships last 10 months within the period from October 1, 2021 to June 31, 2022. The monthly allowance will be 1,200 euros, and the tuition aid will be up to 5,000 euros.
· Africa-MED scholarships
The application period is open February 8-26, 2021. Each grant has a different endowment and duration. They are divided into the following modalities:
· Scholarships to study a Master’s degree in Spanish universities: to study official Master’s degrees of up to 60 credits, related to the lines of action in which the actions of the Spanish Cooperation are framed. Requirements: be an official or staff integrated in the public system of your country, and be a national of Cape Verde, Egypt, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Jordan, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Palestine, Senegal and Tunisia.
· Diplomatic School of Spain: to study the Master in Diplomacy and International Relations of the Diplomatic School (Development Cooperation module). Requirements: be officials of the countries of Africa and the Middle East and national of the countries of the previous section or of one of the countries of the African Union, New Alliance for the Development of Africa, Economic Community of West African States, G5 Sahel or League Arab.
Research stay: to develop a research stay in Spain, related to the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda at a University, a CSIC center or another public or private R&D institution. Requirements: be a research staff linked to an institution of higher education in your country and be a graduate. Have the nationality of Angola, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal , South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania or Zimbabwe.
· Training course in an officially recognized center in Spain: for graduates from Sub-Saharan African countries, recipients of Official Development Assistance (ODA) and with the nationality of the previous section.
· Non-labor practices: to carry out internships in a public or private company or in an officially recognized vocational training center. For citizens of Sub-Saharan African countries, recipients of Official Development Assistance (ODA) with the nationality of the research section.
· Scholarships for musical training of excellence at the Reina Sofía School of Music (ESMRS)
They are intended for young foreigners with pre-admission to the ESMRS. The specialties offered are: piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, oboe, horn, clarinet, bassoon, flute or singing. They are aimed at people with nationality of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Equatorial Guinea, Philippines, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. In addition, they must not have a residence permit in Spain and must have been pre-admitted by the ESMRS.
Scholarships can be apply from March 15 to 30. The scholarships will last from September 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. The monthly allocation will be 1,200 euros, and the tuition aid of up to 2,000 euros.
