Maduro talks with UN Secretary General about US-led destabilization in Venezuela – 2024-09-22 00:27:27

TeleSUR/Prensa Latina

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro held a telephone conversation on Friday with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, where they discussed the political situation on a global scale, with emphasis on Venezuela, following the destabilization attempts promoted by the US government, supported by European and Latin American far-right extremism, against the country after the elections on July 28.

A statement issued by the Venezuelan government said that the president reiterated during the dialogue “the content of the letter sent to the Secretary General, to his office in recent days, detailing the attacks undertaken against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its institutions, which included attempts on the lives of people and attacks on government and private public service facilities,” in which 27 people died.

Likewise, the head of state of the South American country warned about attempts at external aggression, through “the hiring of mercenaries to invade the country and assassination attempts,” which threaten Venezuelan stability due to the use of social networks where the collection of funds to attack institutions is promoted.

The statement also alleges that the UN Secretary General stated that the international organization has shown itself to be opposed to “any intervention in internal affairs that affects the sovereignty and self-determination of nations.”

In this regard, Guterres stressed that the UN advocates for the promotion of dialogue between Venezuelans, supported by constitutional institutions.

Both parties agreed to “support the consultations with different political, social and economic sectors promoted by the Bolivarian Government, looking to the future and dispelling any threat of destabilization in Venezuela.”

They also agreed to maintain communication at the highest level to address the challenges facing the UN in the face of “an increasingly complex global scenario in terms of security and development.”

March in support of their president

Venezuelans will march on September 28 in support of President Nicolás Maduro, according to media reports.

Diosdado Cabello, first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), said during his program “Con el Mazo daba” broadcast on Venezolana de Televisión, that the “revolutionary people of Venezuela” will come out in support of the president.

On September 28, the Venezuelan far right announced a “global” rally to demand recognition of the defeated far-right former candidate Edmundo González, within the framework of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

Faced with this situation, Cabello said that “that day we are also going to march, we are going to the streets because, if there is one thing that we revolutionaries like, it is the streets.”
