The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroannounced on Wednesday that security forces continue with the arrests of “criminals” allegedly linked to the main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD)which he accused of being “fascist” and “diabolical.”
«You will know in the next few hours and in the next few days the criminal plans that we are, in real time (…), revealing, the criminals that we are capturing. They are fascist, diabolical plans»said the president during the inauguration of a medical office, an event that was broadcast on the state channel Venezuelan Television (VTV).
He considered that, “fortunately,” the country has “extraordinary intelligence and counterintelligence and security agencies and friends among the people of different countries of the world” who “inform the Venezuelan Executive of everything in time.”
“I cannot reveal (information), because the investigation is too advanced and any detail I say gives clues to those who are about to put the hooks (to arrest him). First the hooks, then the information to the people.”held.
The president made this statement after reiterating his accusations against the opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and the former presidential candidate of the PUD, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutiawho have remained under protection after reporting fraud in the elections, the official result of which gave victory to Maduro.
“She is a criminal, not only for what she has done but for what she is planning to do.”said the Chavista leader about Machado, whose reelection has not been recognized by numerous countries, which have asked the National Electoral Council (CNE) comply with its regulations and publish disaggregated results.
Maduro also called González Urrutia “bad,” and he has been subject to an arrest warrant since last Monday for alleged crimes related to the publication on a website by the PUD of electoral records collected by witnesses and members of the polling station on election night, according to which the anti-Chavez party won the presidential election by a wide margin.
Without providing evidence or going into details, the president linked Wednesday’s statements to the criminal investigation that was opened after last Friday’s national blackout, when most of the country was left in the dark for almost 12 hours – exceeding 24 in several areas – and reiterated that it was a case of sabotage orchestrated by the opposition alliance.
