A week later, the European Parliament recognized González as the “legitimate and democratically elected” president of Venezuela.

Given this, the Maduro administration delivered a note of protest to the EU delegation in Caracas over the “interference” statements of the aforementioned official.

For its part, Caracas assured that it granted the document “for the sake of tranquility and political peace” of the country.

Venezuela held presidential elections on July 28, in which President Maduro obtained 51.95 percent of the votes, while González, his closest contender, reached 43.18 percent of the votes, according to the National Electoral Council (CNE). .

The PUD ignored the results and released CNE minutes that would prove that González was the winner of the elections.
