Maduro evaluates alternatives with Russia and China to produce covid-19 vaccine

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, said on Friday that his government is evaluating with Russia and China, new projects for the realization of the vaccine against covid-19, with the intention of evaluating the alternatives that the country has for the development of the vaccine.

“I am the first to get the vaccine, I dream of that moment and that assurance will be given by our scientists,” said the president. While adding that the intention is that by 2021 the country will have a vaccine for the Venezuelan people.

He asked, “articulation with the creators of vaccines to evaluate and be in a position to reproduce them in Venezuela to vaccinate our homeland.”

The Scientific Council of Venezuela will be in charge of evaluating all the proposals to produce and apply them in the country.

From a scientific health work day, the head of state said that Venezuela has the best health system. “We have the best free treatments in the world at the service of the Venezuelan people,” said the national president.

“Today we have the best treatments and the best doctors, professionals and health workers in the world, accompanying all patients with their love and knowledge.”

During the conference, the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, announced that Venezuela has requested the appropriate protocols to advance the initiatives of the processes that ensure the country’s participation in these projects effectively.

For his part, the Ministry of Health, Carlos Alvarado, announced that so far there are 168 vaccine projects advancing in the world and 139 in pre-clinical studies. “Of these there are some in phase 3 which implies the application in human beings, for them Venezuela will contribute 500 volunteers,” he said.

He explained that progress has been made in the creation of the Chinese vaccine and the Russian vaccine. “In relation to the United Kingdom vaccine, in it the needs of the Latin American peoples are being raised and in our case in particular the fact that we are in the middle of a blockade, this case has been evaluated, we are in advanced conversations”, said the minister.

Regarding the Cuban vaccine, Julio Cesar García, head of the Cuban Missions reported that the World Health Organization (WHO) approved that this country develop the project, and this includes the contribution of Venezuela.

He explained that for the month of January the vaccine test will be carried out in more than 600 people. He added that Venezuela will be included in the production of the vaccine. “What Cuba has, Venezuela has, the level of creation will be shared between both countries,” he said.

Support for scientific research

The head of state announced the approval of resources in Petros for the country’s health sector, especially for the scientific sector that is currently in charge of preventing and solving the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
