The board said that the companies hindered their efforts to investigate their work by not providing necessary information or providing access to their companies.
Despite this, the council said they were able to prove they did not meet the license requirements.
“These failures include a lack of services throughout the city, a lack of insurance coverage and a lack of technology that prevents vehicles from circulating or parking in restricted spaces,” he said.
Lime, Dott and Tier are the companies chosen to offer electric scooter rentals in Madrid. The licenses given to each company are 2,000 scooters.
The council’s decision means that rental scooters will disappear from the city from this October. As soon as the license revocation process begins, the company has 20 days to appeal the decision.
A spokesperson from Dott said that the company received an official notification from Madrid city hall.
Madrid is not the first city to take action against electric scooter rentals. In August, officials in the Australian city of Melbourne decided to ban electric scooter rentals, citing safety concerns after hundreds of complaints and reports of accidents.
In April 2023, Parisians voted to ban the rental of electric scooters in the capital, and this ban will take effect at the end of August, when the contracts of scooter operators expire.
