Madrid’s Municipal Public Services See 15 Point Increase in Satisfaction, Ranking 15th in National Comparison: OSUR Report

The capital of Spain evaluates its municipal public services with 77% satisfaction, which represents an increase of 8% compared to the 2022 Barometer and 15 points since the last elections in 2019. These are the results of the V Public Services Satisfaction Barometer promoted by the Observatory of Urban Services (OSUR).

The best-rated service in Madrid is the water supply, a service that has one of the best ratings of the total of 30 municipalities analyzed. All services approve, highlighting the 40 percentage point improvement in satisfaction obtained by the street cleaning service, with 69% favorable opinions.

These results place Madrid fifteenth in the comparison of the 30 cities analyzed.

In a detailed analysis, the water supply With 88%, it is the service that is perceived with the greatest satisfaction. The figure drops just 1% compared to the previous Barometer and is 7 percentage points above the average. The number of dissatisfied people is one of the lowest of all services, at only 4%. What is most valued is the quality of the water supplied, with 91% satisfaction, and operational management (pressure, continuity of service, meter operation, etc.), with 88% favorable opinions.

He public transportation It is the second best valued service. With 84% satisfaction, and 4% dissatisfied, both figures that improve those of 2022, by 15 and 13% respectively. The percentage of satisfied people is 6 points above the national average, which is 78%. The most appreciated aspect is the state of cleanliness and conservation of public transport vehicles with 85% satisfaction, and the price with 84% satisfaction.

Third is the conservation of public spaces y care of green areas with 77% of Madrid residents satisfied. The figure is 7 percentage points more than the national average, which also rises and stands at 70%. The number of dissatisfied people is 14%, 20 percentage points below the figure obtained in 2022. The most valued characteristics are the quality of the facilities in the parks and public spaces with 69% of Madrid residents satisfied, and the care of the children’s areas with 68%.

Fourthly, 71% of Madrid residents are satisfied with the service garbage and waste collection, 20 percentage points above the result recorded in 2022, and 3 percentage points above the national average. For Lorenzo Dávila, general director of OSUR: “Madridians improve their assessment of the city’s public services with respect to previous editions, where the most notable thing is the spectacular increase of 20 percentage points in the garbage collection service to reach a notable 71%, a service in which Madrid citizens had normally been more critical in the past. In positions of excellence we find, as usual, the water supply service with 88%. The rest of the services improve in their appreciation compared to 2022, with the exception of street cleaning which remains as it is, in any case in an enviable position”.

The results of this fifth edition of the Barometer are the result of a survey carried out by ODC to 5,210 people between April 12 and May 12, 2023, in order to reflect the opinion of citizens about their municipal public services in the 30 most populated municipalities in the country: Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Málaga, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Bilbao, Alicante, Córdoba, Valladolid, Vigo, Gijón, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Vitoria, A Coruña, Granada, Elche, Oviedo, Terrassa, Badalona, ​​Cartagena, Jerez de la Frontera, Sabadell, Móstoles, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pamplona and Alcalá de Henares.
