The Governing Council of the Madrid’s community has authorized this week the acquisition of 1.6 million doses of flu vaccine for the 2023/2024 campaign with an investment of 18.9 million euros.
As reported by the regional Executive in a statement, this amount covers the needs of the population to which it is addressed, taking into account that during the previous campaign it was administered to 1.4 million citizens in the region.
There will be 850,000 vials of adjuvanted tetravalent vaccines for people aged 65 or over and 750,000 doses for the rest of Madrid who are targeted by the campaign.
It will be aimed at people over 60 years of age, for the first time at children between 6 months and 5 years of age, and at people included in risk groups. The latter group includes chronically ill, pregnant women, health professionals, social health workers, caregivers and essential service personnel, among others.
The Community has recalled the importance of getting vaccinated against gripe at the beginning of the campaign, in the second half of October, both to prevent respiratory complications and hospitalizations due to this virus, and to avoid infecting other vulnerable people.
Seasonal flu normally occurs in an epidemic, generally at the end of autumn, and vaccination is the most effective tool to prevent its spread and other types of complications that it can generate in health, both directly and by aggravation of other diseases. basic, mainly cardiorespiratory, renal or metabolic.
