The Community of Madrid has its roadmap to fight against climate change. In fact, it plans to submit it to public information on the Transparency Portal, as the Governing Council plans to approve today. It is a set of measures to be developed until 2050 that will include active policies to improve air quality and achieve sustainable mobility.
The plan pays special attention to the transportation, residential, commercial and institutional sectors to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, it is expected to reduce ozone emissions with a specific plan to reduce this pollutant and the current air quality control network will be expanded with the increase in stations.
In this way, it will be equipped with fixed station to those municipalities with more than 75,000 inhabitants that lack it such as Parla, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Las Rozas and San Sebastián de los Reyes. These stations will have state-of-the-art analyzers and equipment that will transfer the data in real time to the Processing Center of the Community of Madrid, as reported by the Ministry of the Environment.
A protocol will also be drawn up to define the Low Emission Zones and “harmonize the criteria for homogenization at the local level, taking into account the particularities of the municipalities. Keep in mind that the 40% of road traffic refers to logistics transports (loading and unloading) and it is necessary to take this into account for the homogenization of low emission areas, ”they assure from the Environment.
Agriculture as an important carbon fixer deserves special attention in the plan. And it is that «it is understood that the annual carbon fixation of crops is offset by the emissions that are generated in the cultivation and harvesting tasks themselves, so it is understood that the balance of emissions in annual crops is neutral, but also in those permanent crops (olive groves, vineyards, hops, fruit trees, etc.), forestry, agroforestry systems, hedges or soils have a positive balance and act as carbon sinks ». This is why the strategy contemplates carrying out a Prospecting the weather to make crops more resistant and to better adapt to changes in the climate and R + D + I aimed at the sustainability of the land will be promoted. It is, in short, a strategy aligned with the Terra Plan to support the primary sector.
«We are committed to the green economy. Environmental challenges are inextricably linked to economic activities such as agriculture and livestock, water and natural resource management, but also to the circular economy and the use of waste, renewable energies or electric mobility. We embrace a concept, that of a green economy, which brings together economic activities for an orderly and balanced environmental development ”, assures the acting Minister of the Environment, Paloma Martín.
