Madrid unanimously rewards the “responsibility and solidarity” of its people with the Medal of Honor

The attitude of the people of Madrid towards the coronavirus crisis has been awarded by the City Council of the capital. The City Council has unanimously approved award them the Medal of Honor for the “responsibility and solidarity of all in the most critical and hopeless moments of the pandemic”.

The five parties with representation in the City Council (PP, Ciudadanos, Vox, Más Madrid and Podemos) have voted in favor of distinguishing their people in an extraordinary plenary session that has started with a minute of silence by the victims of the coronavirus and in which there have been no interventions.

All the leaders of the parliamentary groups they have attended the plenary session, with the exception of the Vox spokesman, Javier Ortega Smith, who was hospitalized due to thrombi in his leg and lungs as a result of COVID-19 and instead the mayor of Vox Pedro Fernández has attended.

The Mayor of Madrid, in the Chamber of the Palacio de Cibeles, was present José Luis Martínez-Almeida and the vice mayor Begoña Villacís (Cs), both accompanied by several of their councilors; Inmaculada Sanz, Andrea Levy, Engracia Hidalgo and Paloma García Romero in the PP and Sofía Miranda and Silvia Saavedra in the Ciudadanos bench.

More Madrid has been represented by its spokesperson, Marta Higueras and his deputy spokesman, Rita Maestre, on the part of the PSOE, the socialist spokesman came Pepu Hernández and the councilor Mar Espinar, while Pedro Fernández and Fernando Martínez Vidal have attended on behalf of Vox.

Madrid will celebrate this Friday the festivity of its patron, San Isidro, with two acts, one in Cibeles and another in the Hermitage of San Isidro, under the premises of “few attendees, a lot of symbolism and respect for social distances” to avoid contagion of coronavirus.

The writer of Peruvian origin Mario Vargas Llosa that day he will be in charge of pronouncing the award in the act of handing out the San Isidro Medal of Honor to the people of Madrid, to be held at the headquarters of the Madrid City Council.
