Invite, but not impose. The regional authorities of Madrid on Friday recommended that the population confine themselves to the areas most affected by the coronavirus, while the total number of diagnosed cases of
coronavirus in
Spain increased by more than 8,000 in 24 hours.
According to the daily count of the Ministry of Health, Spain had 386,054 cases on Friday, or about 8,100 more than the day before. This increase is higher than that of Thursday, which had been around 7,000. The death toll reached 28,838, 25 more than Thursday. The Madrid region is one of the most affected by the pandemic. On Thursday, 1,199 were detected there, according to the ministry. There are currently 26 active households (clusters) in the region.
“Avoid unnecessary travel”
In this context, the deputy public health adviser of the regional government of Madrid, Antonio Zapatero, told the press that it was recommended to “try to stay at home in the areas where there are the most cases” , evoking certain neighborhoods in the south of Madrid and towns in its suburbs such as Leganes, Fuenlabrada or Mostoles.
“Try to avoid unnecessary travel,” he said, adding that “unnecessary meetings” should also be avoided and that more than ten people in a house should be avoided. “The virus moves because we move it”, he added, stressing that even if the current situation in Madrid is worrying, “it does not justify, I think, to take measures of containment by zones”.
