The V Congress of European Union-Latin America Media Editors, organized by Prestomedia Grupo, will be held this week in Madrid from November 9 to 12, turning the city into a stage for debate led by well-known professionals from the media sector Communication.
As reported by the organization in a statement, it will be the “first time” that the directors and editors of media such as Clarín and La Nación de Argentina meet in Madrid; The reason of Bolivia; the Folha Group of Brazil; El Mercurio de Chile; the Colombian media El Tiempo and La República; the Extra Group of Costa Rica; Latest News from Ecuador; The Graphic Press of El Salvador; the Mexican media La Reforma and Grupo Milenio; the Star of Panama and La Prensa of Panama; The Country of Uruguay; ABC Color of Paraguay; the German Axel Springer; Agence Europe and Here Europe in Brussels; Il Sole-24 Ore and the Ansa Agency of Italy; Gazeta Wyborcza from Poland; the Jornal de Noticias de Portugal; the Spanish media Agencia EFE, Europa Press, ABC or El Mundo, among others.
The congress will discuss the vision that both continents have on how ‘The risks of cyberspace and information’, ‘Freedom of Expression within the EU – Latin America’, ‘The constructed truth: the role of communicators before the evolution of the networks’ or ‘Disinformation and fake news’, in addition to the theme’ The future of tourism and the recovery of the sector after the pandemic ‘.
On Tuesday the congressmen will be received at the headquarters of the Delegation of the European Union in Madrid, where the vice president of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, will participate; the director of the European Commission office in Madrid, Mª Ángeles Benítez, or the president of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, Javi López.
On November 10, the congress will be inaugurated by the first vice president of the Senate, Cristina Narbona, in the Old Senate Plenary Hall. Alberto Barciela, the Director of the Editors Congress and collaborating journalist for numerous media such as Ondacero or the Iberian Press Group, will also take part in this event. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, will be the one to close the event.
The last day of the Congress will be held at the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid, on the Fuenlabrada Campus, where a session will be held on ‘The constructed truth: the role of communicators in the face of the evolution of the networks’, and the issues of misinformation and the veracity of journalism. In addition, there will be a dialogue between the congressmen, university students and professors.
In the afternoon there will be a working session on ‘The future of tourism and the recovery of the sector after the pandemic’, where representatives of the Tourism Council of the Community of Madrid, the National Tourism Board will participate and will be closed by the secretary Minister of Tourism, Fernando Valdés Verelst, to then begin the debate and establishment of the conclusions of the Madrid Declaration, which will be signed by all the congressmen and submitted to European and Latin American public bodies.
This session will end with the intervention of the president of the Euroamérica Foundation, Ramón Jáuregui; the spokesperson for the European Parliament and Director General of Communication, Jaume Duch, and the Minister for Territorial Policy and spokesperson for the Government of Spain, Isabel Rodríguez, will close the congress.
During their stay in Madrid, guests will also have the opportunity to meet with Iberia managers and learn about what the company is developing, in addition to visiting the Imidra Gastronomic Innovation Center (CIG), located in Platea; as well as visiting the Fundación Telefónica Space and the exhibitions and having a lunch with those responsible for the company. The congress will close with a dinner with the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
