The Transfusion Center from Madrid’s community has made a special appeal to citizens to come to donate blood in order to avoid the decline that usually occurs during holidays. Since last Saturday the 27th and, throughout the entire Holy Week, will be required around 5,000 bags to meet the needs of patients and recover the stock. Although blood reserves have been kept at an optimal level for the last two months thanks to donors, 800 bags have been lost in the last ten days.
Blood is needed from all groups and especially from A negative. If not enough donations come in in the next few days, it will be necessary to continue using the reserves, which will increase their decline. In this sense, they remember that it is mandatory to maintain some security reserves in the event of possible unforeseen events, such as occurred during the storm Filomena. Although an urgent appeal was necessary then, due to the existing reservations, no intervention or transfusion treatment was suspended that could not be postponed.

On the other hand, in addition to the general fall in reserves that usually follows vacation periods, there is a particularly affected blood component. 30 HOSPITALS AND 60 STREET POINTS
In order to facilitate donations, the Transfusion Center of the Community of Madrid, in collaboration with Red Cross, will reinforce blood donation points with a special campaign that will cover 60 points throughout the region. In addition, the mobile unit of Sol it will be every day.
