Madonna was ‘already’ on the stage of the Ziggo Dome on Saturday at 10 p.m. for her second concert in Amsterdam. The concert was therefore finished just after midnight, and not just at 12:45 am, as was the case on Friday.
On Friday, hundreds of fans had to leave early because otherwise they would miss their train.
The course of events led to many complaints on Friday evening. On Saturday, many attendees on X and Instagram breathed a sigh of relief when the Queen of Pop started at 10 p.m. “It’s 10pm and Madonna is actually on stage,” someone writes on X. “It’s a Christmas Miracle!”
The American singer has a reputation for often starting her performances too late. It is not clear whether concert organizer MOJO confronted Madonna or her team about her behavior on Friday evening.
“Madonna determines that, and we have no influence on it,” a spokesperson said on Saturday morning about the start time. “We ask the public to take a late finish time into account.”
Many fans had already left the Ziggo Dome around midnight on Friday, otherwise they would miss their train.
Critics and fans highly praised the show
The singer received, as during previous concerts in Europe, a lot of praise from fans and critics for the show itself. The Telegraph writes that “the superstar crowned herself the undisputed Queen of Pop in Amsterdam in a truly dazzling show”.
Het Parool speaks of a “frantic spectacle in which she completely changes stage in almost every song and plays something from almost every of her albums”. “Even for a pure one greatest hitsshow, Madonna has too many hits.”
Madonna interrupted the series of songs once for a monologue. On World AIDS Day, the ‘Queen of Pop’ talked about all the friends she lost to the disease in the 1980s. This was followed by an acoustic version of the song I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.
