This might be the most curious sale of the year: a 1967 Jaguar Mark X 4.2, belonging to none other than Madonna herself, is up for sale. The ‘Queen of Pop’ has not only broken records in the music industry, but she also got her hands on this elegant British classic for her son, Rocco Ritchie, to use around London.
Now, after several years of touring the city in style, it is going up for auction to offer car enthusiasts and fans of the artist a unique opportunity to own a piece of automotive history and pop culture.
H&H Classics will be making this unique vehicle available for purchase on Wednesday 9 October at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. But the best thing is that it is being offered without reserve, meaning that whoever places the highest bid, no matter how low, could take it home.
Madonna in her 1967 Jaguar Mark X
The Jaguar Mark X 4.2 is no ordinary car. Originally intended for American ‘bigwigs’ (heads of state, diplomats and Hollywood stars), it impressed with eye-catching innovations such as an independent rear suspension and a top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h).
It was basically the Rolls-Royce for those who wanted all the luxury, but at half the price. Naturally, it caught Madonna’s eye. As for Rocco, the 23-year-old artist and model has been cruising around London in it since his mother bought it in 2021.
Apparently it wasn’t a whim, as Rocco used it as his primary mode of transportation while making a name for himself. If you’ve gotten into Madonna’s Instagram Recently, you may have seen the singer posing with the car, because of course, she made sure to remind everyone that it is still hers, at least for a little while longer.
Lucas Gomersall, car specialist at H&H Classics, said: “It’s incredible to be putting a Jaguar so closely associated with Madonna up for sale,” adding that fans and collectors alike will be “blown away” by the sale.
And while the Madonna connection is certainly one of the car’s strong points, Gomersall noted that this car is special in its own right, as it is a rare 4.2-litre model that was only produced for a couple of years. For more details on the auction, check out the link below.
