The Queen of Pop has triumphed in every creative field she has set out to do, so at this point in her career she only seems to have one thing left to do: take her own life to the movies, and on her own terms. Currently Madonna is involved in the preparations for an autobiographical film written and directed by her (“There is no one on this planet who can write or direct a film about me better than me”, has declared with very good criteria), so that it has been a good opportunity to remember the ups and downs of his career, and recently he went on television having some of them fresh. Specifically, by Tonight Show that shows Jimmy Fallon, where this Thursday he began to review the great mistakes of his cinematographic facet.
This autobiography will not mark Madonna’s leap to directing (she has already played this role on two previous occasions), but it is possible that it does echo in some way the great mistake she made in the late 1990s, when she refused to appear in a quirky movie titled Matrix. “I turned down a role in The Matrix, can you believe it? I wanted to commit suicide ”, confided to Fallon, in direct parallelism with the lamentations of another star, Will Smith: this actor also refused to appear in the sisters’ film Wachowski, with the aggravation that he did it to star Wild Wild West, a great failure of critics and public that he has recently described as the biggest mistake of his career.
Instead of Matrix Madonna did no western with giant spiders, but that does not mean that it hurts less. “It’s like one of the best movies ever made. A tiny part of me only regrets that moment in my life. “ The star has not come to identify the character that the Wachowski had offered him, nor has he commented on the imminence of the fourth installment of the saga, Matrix Resurrections, which opens next December 22th. She has revealed, for her part, other roles that she regrets not having accepted during the 90s: playing Catwoman in the Batman returns from Tim Burton, already one of the protagonists of Showgirls from Paul Verhoeven.
“I saw both and I regret rejecting Catwoman, that also half anger”Madonna declares, without referring directly to Verhoeven’s eccentric film (perhaps because she finds it a relief to have stayed out of one of the most controversial films of that decade). The role of Catwoman ended up in the hands of Michelle Pfeiffer, being later interpreted for the cinema by Anne Hathaway (on The Dark Knight Rises) and Zoë Kravitz (in the next The Batman that opens the March 4, 2022).
