PIZZO (VV) – More violence in the healthcare sector in the Vibo area, this time at the station of medical guard of Pizzothis time, however, with mutual accusations of assault between doctor and patient. This is what emerges from the reconstruction made in the local press with two opposing accounts of the affair being investigated by the police.
The episode occurred on Wednesday. A 61 year old man, accompanied by his wife, he presented himself to the medical guard with a certificate drawn up by another doctor to be assigned a drug. Doctor Angelo La Grotta, according to what he reported to the Southern newspaper, pointed out to the 61-year-old that he was unable to understand his colleague’s handwriting, inviting him to get a new prescription. In response, the man allegedly attacked him first verbally and then physically, despite his arm in a cast.
First he would have thrown a chair at him and then the desk, pushing him against the wall. The doctor managed to call 112, causing the police to intervene. “When I was forcefully pushed against the wall I thought the worst” says La Grotta. For his part, the 61-year-old, again according to the doctor’s report, grabbed a chair again but this time it slipped on him, hitting him on the head and causing a copious flow of blood. The man was then taken to the emergency room of the Vibo Valentia hospital where, his wife reported to the Gazzetta del Sud, he was given a 30-day prognosis for a cerebral hemorrhage after having been attacked, according to him, with kicks and punches by the doctor. “My husband is in intensive care – the woman told the newspaper – and will then be interviewed by the police. The one who attacked him was the doctor he had turned to for a prescription for a life-saving drug.”
