Dammam: Saudi expatriate community celebrates Easter. Unlike in the past, the Saudi community also came with greetings to the Christian expatriates. In addition to the country’s efforts to promote coexistence and harmony among communities, expatriates in Saudi Arabia have recently shown interest in learning about and participating in the various celebrations celebrated by expatriates. It was also evident in the Easter celebration.
Muslim World League President Shaikh Dr. Last December, Muhammad Al-Isa clarified that there is no text in Sharia law that prohibits Muslims from greeting Christians. He also said that congratulating believers on their festive occasions reflects the humane and friendly face of Islam. He also stated that we are in a time where coexistence and unity should be promoted in the world through such greetings.
Many shops selling decorative items related to the Easter celebration appeared in Saudi Arabia this time. Traders said that locals along with foreigners have shown interest in buying such decorative items. Shops across the country, including Al Ahsa Mall in the Eastern Province, Mall of Dhahran and Al Nakheel Dammam Mall, sold a wide range of Easter-inspired items, including egg hunt awards, egg coloring items, bunny baskets, wall decorations and more.
The items were sold in similar shops at The View Mall, Al Nakheel Mall in Riyadh and Mall of Arabia in Jeddah. Mansaf, a traditional dish made with mutton, rice and curd, which is a favorite for Easter dinner, is widely sold in restaurants in Riyadh. This dish is served at Alkofia Restaurant, Beit Umar, Shamaya, Awani, Al Mansaf Restaurant and Beit Al Mansaf in Riyadh. Restaurants in various parts of the country also prepared Easter dishes such as Musakhan, a Palestinian dish of breaded chicken.
There are also opportunities for Christian Arab families and friends to come together while sharing traditional foods. Families also exchange Easter baskets filled with eggs, sweets and other goodies.
