Gallery “Roman Garden”
5.00, 2.00
Although Madara Neiken actively participates in exhibitions in Latvia and abroad, this is her first solo exhibition in Liepāja. The artist says that it was with the sea that she started falling in love with painting and the desire to paint appeared.
The main genre in Madara Neiken’s painting is landscape, the works are created in “a la prima” or one-pass technique. First, a smaller-format painting is created, and then the color and feeling captured in nature are reflected in large-format paintings, which have a laconic expression cultivated to the point of minimalism. The artist reveals that color and the overall mood of the painting are important to her, the message can be expressed with just a few lines.
Madara Neiken: “A light dawns above the horizon in the sea. Above the horizon, in the dark, the cities light up the wisps of clouds. Above the horizon there is an ever-changing gap of time. The paintings include landscapes with and without the horizon. In fact, it is a sense of the landscape – just the sky or the sky and the earth in the changing rhythm of the day.”
