“Madame Web” is an embarrassing and pointless mess | MovieZine

MovieZine also has the first (and so far only) Swedish review. Spoiler alert: It’s not positive either.

When a film has no press screenings, or when the review embargo is released very close to the release date, it’s usually a bad sign. Sony’s latest superhero flick “Madame Web” is no exception.

The film had its world premiere on Monday night local Los Angeles time and the initial reactions were generally predictably negative. NME gathered some quick opinions from social media.

Cris Parker at 3CFilmes describes “Madame Web” as an embarrassing mess: “Talented stars wasted on probably the worst comic book movie I’ve ever seen. Filled with terrible dialogue, awkward editing and a laughable structure. I sat there baffled scene by scene that anyone approved this.”

Britt on ScreenRant: “For me, ‘MadameWeb’ unfortunately lacked the spark it needed in almost every department: writing, acting, action sequences. There are some good moments with excellent overall pacing, but geez, this was hard to get through.”

MovieZine has the only Swedish review of Madame Web, which goes in much the same spirit. Despite some doses of adrenaline in the action scenes, according to Andreas Samuelson, there are not many reasons to care: “It’s not offensive or provocatively bad – but oh so pointless.”

On Rotten Tomates, which at the time of writing has collected 80 reviews for “Madame Web”, the film currently has 18% and that… is not good.

There are positive reactions as well, highlighting the lead actors and generally seeming to appreciate the film’s entertainment value over pure quality, but they are so far in the minority.

“Madame Web” climbs into Swedish cinemas today, February 14.
