Madagascar. Wednesday Morning Group. 5th Salon du Chocolat on the eve of Easter 2023

As part of its philanthropic actions, and as a fundraiser, the Wednesday Morning Group (WMG), will organize its 5th Salon du Chocolat et de la Gourmandise, initiated in 2017 by Patricia Rabe, then President in office.

In fact, this 5th Salon du Chocolat et de la Gourmandise will be the first WMG event for this year 2023. It will take place on Sunday April 2 at the Carlton Anosy, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Once again, this will be an excellent opportunity for craftsmen and companies of all sizes in this field of activity to make themselves known and to promote their products.

All profits will go directly to the social actions of this year 2023. Remember that in 2022, the WMG built three washhouses in the respective districts of Ambohitrakely, Besarety and Andranomanelatra. This, in partnership with the Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA).

As regards the Fair itself, around thirty exhibitors are planned. Taking into account the health situation, the WMG has planned to develop unenclosed free spaces. Remember that the current President of the WMG is Solange Ramamonjisoa Chapuis.

While waiting for this big meeting, what exactly is WMG Madagascar?

The Wednesday Morning Group (WMG) was created in 1963 by a group of female diplomats from the American Embassy in Madagascar. Their goal was to organize their charitable activities and help the most needy population, for which they invited Malagasy women.

The first organization to benefit from their help is the orphanage “The Paulins” of Bel Air, managed by Miss Beury, of French nationality, which at the time welcomed 80 orphans. After that, they helped the Crèche de Fihaonana, run by a Swiss citizen, which looked after 60 children. This organization was located 50 km from Antananarivo, which represented a significant challenge for the group: to assess their needs and obtain help. Over time, requests for help from different organizations multiplied and the group decided to hold their first fundraising luncheon at theAmerican Residence.

The event was a success and allowed the media management group to gain public exposure and launch its fundraising activities. Soon after, the first Christmas bazaar was organized and the event was chaired by the first lady of Madagascar, Mrs. Justine Tsiranana.

In 1972, the WMG and its statutes were revised in accordance with the requests of the ambassadors’ wives, adding the Madagascar International Group to its name. The WMG has an Honorary President, Ms. Ginette Andriantsitohaina, a founding member of the initial WMG in 1963, and the first Malagasy participant to be appointed President.

WMG currently supports projects aimed at:

  • Provide access to drinking water and hygiene facilities to communities in the Analamanga region;
  • Promote hygiene, including hand washing, toilet use, etc. ;
  • Promote civic education by distributing brochures and support.

Among its charitable activities, WMG continues to:

  • Donate, directly or through other organizations, food and other supplies to orphanages, schools, patients and people in need;
  • Donate materials to improve schools and other buildings.

New participants should be introduced and sponsored by current members.

Usually a member invites candidates to attend our monthly meeting once or twice. During the first meeting, the new candidate is introduced to the group. Participation in a third meeting indicates the will to be a member, which must be accompanied by the membership form and the payment of annual dues for the calendar year.

Full membership allows participation in all WMG activities, such as submission of applications, participation in one or more committees for organizing events and fundraising, evaluation and monitoring projects, communications, etc.

We welcome new members who want to help us improve Malagasy communities.
