ANTANANARIVO, June 28 (Xinhua) – The old health and safety measures in Madagascar are being maintained but their application will be stricter for the next 15 days, Prime Minister Christian Ntsay announced on Sunday evening.
The gradual deconfinement caused non-compliance with health and safety measures by some, deplored Mr. Ntsay during a special program broadcast on the national channel TVM.
The Malagasy government decided on Saturday after a Council of Ministers the extension of a period of 15 days of the state of health emergency throughout the territory of Madagascar.
Indeed, statistics reported by the government have indicated an increase in positive cases of new coronavirus: a total of 249 new people have tested positive during the last three days.
“Nevertheless, the situation is under control in the country,” tempered the head of government about the evolution of the spread of COVID-19.
In addition, he announced the establishment of a new screening area within the Village Voara Andohatapenaka (village of La Francophonie) to accommodate people with doubts about the symptoms of the disease.
“Health personnel can help and advise them on their state of health, especially in this winter period when the symptoms of COVID-19 and those of the flu are similar,” he said.
In addition, it is now possible to receive treatment at home, depending on the patient’s choice, said the Prime Minister.
Regarding education, Mr. Ntsay confirmed that this year’s official exams will be held, “but advancing dates now is not appropriate, as it will depend on the evolution of the pandemic.”
According to official data, Madagascar has recorded 2,078 confirmed cases of COVID-19 from March 19 to June 28, of which 1,117 are in treatment, while 18 patients have died.
