Awareness-raising workshop on the protection of personal data for the benefit of the Malagasy authorities
Radisson Blu Antananarivo, Thursday July 6, 2023 – As part of the Malagasy Government’s support project by the OIF (International Organization of La Francophonie) in favor of support for the strengthening of the registration of civil status events, launched since 2021 in Madagascar, the The Francophone Association of Personal Data Protection Authorities (AFAPDP) was asked in 2022 to support the Malagasy authorities on the ” Protection of personal data “.
This includes contributing to the establishment of the Malagasy Commission for Computing and Liberties (CMIL) provided for by law no. 2014-038 of January 9, 2015. This is an institution that will play an essential role in the reform of the civil status system in Madagascar.
This workshop, which was held on July 6, 2023 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, was intended to raise awareness among the authorities of the emergence of an IT culture and freedoms in Madagascar and to inform and raise awareness of the main principles and issues. with regard to data protection, from different points of view, in particular:
– Registration of personal data protection authorities in the institutional landscape;
– Respect for fundamental rights and freedoms;
– Economic and technological issues.
This workshop is a continuation of the activities carried out with the OIF and the AFAPDP in 2022, which consisted in the organization of a session for sharing experiences between the Malagasy and Moroccan authorities, with a view to finalizing the project. implementing decree relating to the law on the protection of personal data.
The participants in this July 6 workshop were mainly representatives of the authorities concerned with the protection of personal data: Presidency, Prime Minister, Sectoral Ministries, Parliaments, Attached Organizations, CSOs, CTDs, CSBF.
The President of the AFAPDP himself was the main expert who coordinated the exchanges during this awareness day. Testimonies from a newly installed authority, and from an older authority illustrated the sessions./.
