Mad Max Furiosa Spin-off Script Confirms Video Game Canon

The spin-off script, which will center on Charlize Theron’s character, contains notes on what happened in the video game.

George Miller is once again preparing to take audiences back to the apocalyptic world of sand and gasoline with the release of a film about the adventures of Furiosa. Journalist Drew McWeeney has reviewed the script for the upcoming film and claims that the Mad Max game, released in 2015, is still canon.

I spent the entire day reading the script for Furiosa, which is full of illustrations and storyboards, and my friends, I can’t wait to see this movie in real life. The craziest thing of all? Notes in the margins of the script confirm that the Mad Max video game is canon to the saga.

This information fits very well with what was already shown in the first Furiosa trailer, which talked about Gastown, which is in the video game Mad Max and in Fury Road. It’s not entirely clear why the journalist was so surprised, because the game takes place immediately after the events of the film. Immortan Joe is dead. And at the beginning of the game you see how Scrotus hunts Mad Max as revenge. However, we’ll have to wait until May 24, 2024 to find out what other places Anya Taylor-Joy will visit.

In 2015, shortly after the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, a video game called Mad Max was released on all major platforms. It didn’t sell very well due to being on par with Metal Gear Solid V and not getting the huge marketing push it probably deserved after Fury Road, but many who played it loved it. It was brutal, dark and fun, allowing Max to get into fights and have wild car battles in the desert. Avalanche’s game was rather chaotic and didn’t seem to fit into any particular continuity of the Mad Max films, preferring to stick to the overall story and tone of the films.
