The facts took place at a corner house of the Kattestraat with the Trinellestraat in Millen. The husband’s wife, who no longer felt safe at home, had run into the street around 8:30 PM. When the police of the Bilzen-Riemst-Hoeselt zone arrived on the scene, the resident shot a firearm in the direction of the police.
The police officers were eventually able to overpower and handcuff the shooter. The police themselves did not have to fire a shot. The shooter has been transferred to the police station, where he will be questioned on Saturday evening or Sunday if possible.
For zone chief Dirk Claes, the phone call about shots to his police officers came in violently on Saturday. On Sunday it will be eleven years ago that colleague Eddy Strijckers was shot dead by a fugitive murderer during an intervention in Bilzen.
A safety zone has been set up at the corner house to protect the tracks. Saturday evening around 9.45 pm, all the people from the technical and scientific police of the federal police were on the spot for an extensive trace investigation. A ballistic expert will also come to Millen.
