giant character balloons have become a signature of the annual celebration. Since 1927, the world’s most famous people have been transformed into works of art soaring in the sky. Originally inspired by puppets, Parade Balloons first debuted as upside-down air-filled puppets carried down the parade route on sticks. The design later evolved to include helium, making them flying giants. Over time, Macy’s artists have innovated and created various types of inflatables including balloons (inflated heads seated atop a costumed participant), the balloons (hybrid inflatables with vehicles inside), and more recently, trikes (tandem trikes with an inflated balloon character).
New giants joining the lineup this year include Bluey; Diary of the a Wimpy Kid books by de Abrams; DINO and Baby DINO de Sinclair Oil; and Stuart el Minion de Illumination.
