During the meeting of the National Assembly on Tuesday morning, the bureau ruled that the motion of impeachment against Emmanuel Macron is admissible. The proposal was tabled by Mélenchon’s “France Insoumise” party.
Therefore, it will be discussed by the Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, but also in a public meeting. Nevertheless, as the impeachment motion against Macron appears, it has virtually no chance of being approved.
In order for the proposal to be ratified, it must be “voted” by two-thirds of the National Assembly and the Senate. Discussions are due to take place within a few weeks. However, it is worth noting that it is the first time that such a proposal has passed through the filter of the National Assembly’s bureau. The composition of said body is inextricably linked to it.
This happens because although the MPs of the left alliance of the New People’s Front, have a minority in the National Assembly, they have a majority in the presidency, after the defection of some of Macron’s MPs to the Hemicycle, during the election of secretaries.
Thus, with a numerical superiority, the MPs of the four left-wing groups all voted “acceptable” on the proposal.
At the same time, the Socialists, although they hesitated at first, were the ones who finally tipped the scales. “This procedure has been signed by more than one tenth of the members of the National Assembly and is documented, our representatives in the Bureau will vote in favor of its admissibility“, the Socialist group had announced in a Press Release the previous day.
The procedure is therefore expected to be examined soon by the Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly. Still, of course, even if the impeachment motion against Macron is rejected, it could lead to a referendum.
It is recalled that the process starts a few days after the appointment of Michel Barnier as the Prime Minister of France.

Most French political analysts agree that it is almost impossible for this process to lead to the impeachment of the current president.
Gabriel Attal declared that this is a declaration of war against the institutions of the French Republic. On the other hand, Marine Le Pen stated that the impeachment process of the French president is doomed to failure due to the fragmentation of the parties of the left.
