The leaders of France, Germany and Italy – Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi – will still arrive in Ukraine on Thursday, June 16.

The visit of European leaders to Kyiv was confirmed by high-ranking diplomats and officials in the European Union. Macron, Scholz and Draghi plan to meet with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to express support ahead of the release of the European Commission’s decision on the EU candidate’s status.
According to European diplomats, the European Commission is expected to recommend granting Ukraine candidate status, subject to a series of reforms. But there are still discussions in the EU about when these reforms should be implemented – before or after becoming a candidate.
This visit, according to FT interlocutors, will help Ukraine gather enough support to grant candidate status now.
