jpnn.com – Three technology companies, Macron, Samsung, and SK Hynix, were sued for alleged monopolistic practices.

The three were accused of driving up the price of the dynamic random access memory (DRAM) memory chip used in a number of cellphones and computers.

The three indeed dominate the memory chip market, because it is considered to be able to set prices.

If combined, the market share of the DRAM chips made by the three companies is almost 100 percent.

According to Trendforce, the breakdown for Samsung is 42.1 percent, SK Hynix 29.5 percent, and Micron 23 percent.

The class action stated that the plaintiffs were victims of monopolistic practices, which resulted in a limited supply of chips.

The plaintiffs claim to represent Americans who purchased cell phones and computers between 2016 and 2017.

In that time period, the price of DRAM memory chips did increase by 130 percent, and the profits of the three companies increased dramatically, doubling. (phonearena / rdo / jpnn)
