French President Emmanuel Macron today ruled out the choice of a left-wing government, in the name of “institutional stability” and announced that from tomorrow Tuesday he will hold new consultations “with party leaders” and other “personalities”, according to the announcement of the Palace of the Elysees.
Macron urged socialists, communists and environmentalists to “cooperate with the other political forces”, without naming the Insubordinate France (LFI, radical left) with which they had formed the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance, which won in recent elections parliamentary elections but without securing a majority in the National Assembly.
After the first round of consultations with the parties, which began on Friday, the French president ruled out the possibility of forming a government “on the basis of a unique program and only of the parties” of the NFP. Such a government would immediately face a motion of censure from all other parties represented in parliament, and “institutional stability therefore dictates that we not rely on this option,” the statement said.
Immediately, the coordinator of Insubordinate France Manuel Bobard denounced, speaking on the BFMTV channel, “an unacceptable, anti-democratic coup”.
However, Macron called on “all politicians to rise to the occasion and show a spirit of responsibility”.
New round of consultations
Tomorrow will begin the new round of consultations to find the new prime minister, with party officials and “personalities who stand out due to their experience in the service of the state and the Republic”.
Although the first round did not find a replacement for outgoing Prime Minister Gabriel Atal, “my responsibility is not to block or weaken the country,” Macron stressed.
