“Verbal attacks will not help further peace in Ukraine,” Macron said in an interview with France2 television. Russia TodayWednesday (13/4/2022).
He said he would be careful with such terms and said Ukrainians and Russians were “brothers.”
However, this statement was vehemently rejected by the Ukrainian authorities. Ukraine’s Institute of National Remembrance even created some infographics last month, explaining that Ukrainians are pure-blooded Slavs unlike Russians, who mix with Ugro-Finnish tribes.
In the interview, the French leader said that the continued violence in Ukraine was “insane” and he believed that war crimes committed by Russian soldiers there and the perpetrators should be held accountable.
“However, the main goal is to secure peace in Ukraine,” Macron said. “I don’t believe that the escalation of rhetoric supports that goal,” he added, referring to Biden’s remarks.
Biden first described the Russian invasion as genocide in a speech in Iowa on Tuesday. Biden also called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “dictator.”
