KIEV – French President Emmanuel Macron has asked NATO to provide security guarantees Russia as Moscow moved closer to the negotiating table to end its war Ukraine .

Macron’s call angered Ukrainians. Kiev officials rejected the idea suggested by Macron.

The French president’s appeal was made in a television interview late last week, in which he said that the NATO military alliance must provide guarantees to Moscow on the day when the parties approach the negotiating table to place end to the war that has already started for 10 months it.

«One of the important points we have to face, as the president always says [Vladimir] Putin, it’s the fear of NATO coming straight to his door and the deployment of weapons that can threaten Russia,” Macron said.

On Sunday, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov questioned calls for security guarantees “for a terrorist and murderous nation”.

“Instead of Nuremberg… to sign a treaty with [Rusia] and shake hands?” Danilov wrote on Twitter, referring to the trials of Nazi war criminals after WWII.

“Won’t Ukrainian blood on Putin’s hands interfere with business as usual?” he continued, as quoted PoliticMonday (5/12/2022).

Danilov said he believed a “denuclearized and demilitarized” Russia was the best guarantee of peace for Europe and the world.

Advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky Mykhailo Podolyak said that instead of security guarantees for the Kremlin, the world needs security guarantees from the barbaric intentions of post-Putin Russia.
