Macron believes Ukraine’s worst is yet to come and Putin is determined to seize the country

French President Emanuel Macron believes the worst in Ukraine is yet to come and Russian President Vladimir Putin is apparently determined to seize the entire country, Macron’s aide said after an hour-and-a-half-long phone conversation between the two leaders on Thursday.

Putin justified the invasion again with “denacification” of Ukraine, said an aide who asked not to be named.

He described what Putin said as shocking and unacceptable, and that Macron told Putin that they were lies.

The Kremlin’s press service said in a telephone conversation that leaders had exchanged views on Ukraine.

“Putin set out in detail the principled approach and the conditions in the context of the talks with Kiev. It was confirmed, first of all, that Ukraine is demilitarized and neutral so that its territory is never threatened by the Russian Federation,” the statement said.

“Special military operations,” as the Kremlin calls Putin’s war against Ukraine, “will in any case be fulfilled, but attempts to gain time by delaying negotiations will only lead to new demands on Kiev in our negotiating position.”
