Putin’s condolences
For its part, the Russian presidency indicated that, during a telephone call, Vladimir Putin had “Sent his condolences about the terrorist attack of October 16 in the suburbs of Paris, the barbaric murder of a French professor ”.
“In this context, the two sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in stepping up joint efforts to combat terrorism and the spread of extremist ideology”, added the Kremlin.
On Saturday, the Russian Embassy in Paris stressed that the Chechen assailant 18-year-old, accused of beheading Samuel Paty, had no links with Moscow since 2008.

“This crime has nothing to do with Russia, given that this individual has lived in France for 12 years and was welcomed by the French side.”, noted the embassy quoted by the Tass agency.
She also pointed out that the alleged assailant who was killed, Abdullakh Anzorov, arrived in France at the age of 6 with his whole family who had obtained refugee status, automatically leading to a deprivation of Russian nationality.
For his part, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov condemned the attack on Saturday and offered his condolences to the teacher’s family, while calling on France not to “Provoke” Muslims.
Ramzan Kadyrov had argued that Abdullakh Anzorov was raised in France and only visited Chechnya once, when he was two years old.
