(Reuters) – Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri will be CEO of the FIFA Foundation, a charity founded in 2018 to adapt football to serve society.

“Mauricio is the right man to manage this project,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said of former Boca Juniors club president.

“Through his experience as a former head of a big country, Mauricio knows perfectly the pivotal role that education plays in the future of societies, and after his leadership one of the most successful clubs in the world knows very well the unique strength of this sport and the great inspiration it gives to its fans.”

Macri has failed in his bid for a second four-year term in Argentina after losing in the elections in October 2019 and will cooperate with the current CEO of FIFA Charity Foundation Yuri Gorkayev and will focus on education programs.
