macOS has deadweight issue when importing images

The bug that increases the weight of the photos when they are imported the Image Transfer app is actually much more popular. Norbert Doerner, the developer of NeoFinder behind the discovery, continued his little investigation, and it turns out that all software that uses ImageCaptureCore is affected: developers must go through it framework when importing images from a camera or iPhone.

Image transfer can convert HEIF files to JPEG, just uncheck the Keep originals option. But in this case, beware of dead weight!

Lightroom, Affinity Photo, PhaseOne Media Pro, iPhoto and Aperture are affected … but not Apple’s Photos app, which relies on private APIs! You’ve never been served as well as by yourself. The good news is that the problem is now well identified; the bad news is that we’re going to have to wait for Apple to make it bite the dust.

Recall that the bug adds dead weight when converting HEIF photos to JPEG (1.5 MB for each image). While waiting for a fix, and if the Mac’s storage space is a little tight, it is always possible to choose a format other than the HEIF standard, in the settings Camera > Formats then select the option The most compatible.

The beta version of Graphic Converter includes a tool to delete this data without interest, just like the last update of NeoFinder.
