Apple start rolling out updates macOS Big Sur on 12 November. But few users MacBook Pro legacy found this new operating system to crash their device.
Some users of the 2013 and 2014 13-inch MacBook Pro have complained that this update made their laptop screen turn black during the installation process, and users have no way to fix it themselves.
This issue was first spotted by the MacRumors website, which found user complaints regarding the black screen during the Big Sur installation on its website forums, Reddit and Apple’s support site.
Quoted detikINET from The Verge, Wednesday (11/18/2020) older MacBook Pro users reported that their device only displays a black screen during the update process macOS Big Sur.
The key combinations for reset, including NVRAM, SMC, safe mode and internet recovery are reportedly inaccessible after the user tries to install the update, so the user cannot handle it on their own.
Most of the users experiencing this issue are owners of the late 2013 and mid-2014 13-inch MacBook Pro, but it is not yet known how many users were affected. Also note, these two MacBook Pro models are the oldest models that still support macOS Big Sur.
At launch, macOS Big Sur did have a number of issues due to high demand and slowing down Apple servers. This is causing some new Mac devices to slow down as there is a feature that Apple has to verify that the app has no malware before running.
This server issue also made it difficult for some users to update macOS Big Sur. When trying to open the installer, their device displays an error message.
Because of this black screen problem, old MacBook Pro users should wait a few weeks for Apple to patch the gap and install macOS Big Sur.
