macOS Big Sur: the second public beta is available

The second public beta of macOS 11 incorporates changes from the fifth developer beta.

Apple goes on the publication of its various betas. Public versions now follow those intended for developers, although their number differs. In the case of macOS, developers have indeed been able to test more versions of the Big Sur update since they are already benefiting from the fifth beta, while members of the beta-testing program have only just received the second.

This is explained quite simply because the 2e public beta includes what’s new in 5e beta. The point is that non-developers were able to take advantage of the beta of macOS only recently, August 6 to be precise versus the end of June for developers. Public updates therefore group together several betas.

Anyway, the second public beta is available. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t really bring anything new to macOS Big Sur. It still fixes one or the other bug or security flaw and improves the use of the OS, but nothing very interesting. It is indeed quite rare for Apple to deliver new features with its beta on macOS, unlike iOS.

The final version of macOS Big Sur is expected to be available for download in the fall. A major update that unifies the ecosystem of Apple since macOS 11 will visually approach the design of the iPhone. Find all the news here.

If you are already part of the beta testing program, you can now download the new beta. Remember that this is an unfinished version. It can therefore contain bugs and cause problems on your machine.

For those who would like to take advantage of it, we explain how to integrate Apple’s beta software program here.
