It is not uncommon for it to be a bit slow when an update is released, as the progress is large. This time it seems to go slower than usual, and many also experience that they do not get installed at all, according to 9to5Mac.

MacOS Big Sur is a relatively large update of 12 GB. Despite fast internet connections, people have received download estimates of 12-13 hours to a full seven days. Downloads that stop and downloads that fail are also among the issues reported.

Apple confirms the problems on its system status pages, and writes late Thursday night that they are investigating what is wrong.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple’s developer websites and iMessage are also down. Some have also reported that the Apple TV app is slow to use.
