The beta version of macOS 15.1 adds the ability to download Mac App Store apps to an external hard drive, and users can freely choose whether to enable related functions. When the function is enabled, the system will automatically download applications larger than 1GB to the external hard drive selected by the user. For applications smaller than 1 GB, macOS will install them to the internal hard drive by default.
macOS Sequoia will no longer require the Mac App Store twice the available storage space of the app, meaning that when downloading a 2GB application, the Mac will no longer need at least 4GB of storage space to download. macOS Sequoia will be officially released next month, and macOS 15.1 is expected to be released at the end of October.
