MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, has donated another $2.7 billion to various charities. In total, she has already given away $8.5 billion since July 2020.

The donations were announced in a blog post, in which Scott wrote that she wanted to give money to “people who are not seen.” 286 organizations working on inequality, art and education were chosen. Scott writes that she wants to redistribute her wealth and that she worked with a team of researchers and her new husband, Dan Jewett, to find out who would receive the donations.
“We are convinced that the undivided wealth should not be in the hands of a few, and that the solutions better come from others,” she wrote.
Scott, a past life novelist, and Bezos split in 2019 after 25 years of marriage. The divorce made her one of the richest women in the world. She therefore retained a 4 percent stake in e-commerce giant Amazon. Since then its value has risen sharply.
In July 2019, a month after her divorce, she became a member of ‘The Giving Pledge’, a campaign that encourages the world’s richest to give away half of their fortunes to charities.
