Piotr Guszkowski from “Gazeta Wyborcza” asked Maciej Stuhr if he was in the same row as criticized and boycotted by the public media Krystyna Janda – and whether there is a “ban in public media” on it. “Anyway, I already have one colonel in my account. Seven years ago we shot” Excentryków, or on the sunny side of the street “. Janusz Majewski’s film was released in cinemas, the series was edited, but it was never broadcast on TVP. I learned that it would not be broadcast because of me. Public money was spent, but out of spite of one actor, television prefers to lose “- replied Stuhr.

From the boy next door to the public enemy

In the interview Maciej Stuhr for “Gazeta Wyborcza” there was also a thread of opposition from the authorities, including the minister of culture, Piotr Gliński towards certain film productions. The topic of the new film “Wesele” was discussed, directed by Wojciech Smarzowskiabout which the head of the ministry said in the weekly “Sieci”: “There is good news. »Wedding 2« suffered a disaster in cinemas, they were watched by ten times fewer viewers than »Clothes« by the same director “. Meanwhile, Smarzowski’s film is currently in the three most popular Polish productions this year. It was viewed by 486 thousand. viewers. However, the director was criticized by the right-wing media – his film touches on many uncomfortable threads in Polish history.

Maciej Stuhr said that “Pokłosie” by Władysław Pasikowski, in which he played the role of a village resident who fought to commemorate the Jews who lived there before the war, was a field for him to discuss our troubled past. “But it just so happened, rather by accident, that I stepped in front, thinking I was going in line.” He added that he was shocked. He tried to be the boy next door, and in moments he became a public enemy. As Smarzowski added, thanks to this “it was a bit easier”, because “the trail has already been paved”.

The actor, who is also a lecturer, admitted that he felt sorry for his students. In his opinion, revealing leftist views means closing the road to projects for public money. He also assessed that conservative students at an art school are also uphill: “For a young man with strong, conservative views, who enters the acting department, it must be genuinely difficult right from the start. (…) I imagine that you prefer not to do so. reveal with views to colleagues or lecturers “- he said.

How did he prepare for scenes in which he played a drunk hero? “Like a dervish, I was in circles for a few minutes before the camera went off,” said the actor. He also admitted that he never lived through what his character did: “I overcame a certain barrier in myself. Although I have drunk alcohol more than once in my life, I have never found myself anywhere near the bottom that my hero reached“- he assessed.
