Maciej Stuhr in his Instagram and Facebook posts told about the “Christmas Eve miracle” he witnessed. The actor welcomed Marawa in his Warsaw home, the whole country of whom lived because of the possibility of staying legally in Germany. Maciej Stuhr and his wife also hosted the parents of the 30-year-old who came to Poland to look after her after she rubbed herself to death in a forest near Hajnówka.

Members of Marwa’s 30-year-old family have been living permanently in Germany for several years. The woman tried to join the family legally, but was not granted a visa. Finally, like other refugees from Syria, she decided to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border to get to Germany. Her plan failed and she got stuck in a forest near Hajnówka, where she was found by volunteers from the Granica Group in a state of great exhaustion. Within an hour, she was transported to the hospital in Hajnówka with a diagnosis of deep hypothermia. As it turned out, she also had a kidney problem, and the doctors began fighting for her life.
Marwa was under the supervision of specialists from the hospital in Hajnówka for two months. She was given a minimal chance of survival and her parents were summoned, informing her that the woman’s condition was serious and she was in danger of death. Marwa’s organism, however, was so strong that the kidneys started working and she managed to regain consciousness. Over time, the 30-year-old began to recover, but still struggling with her own strength. After regaining consciousness, Marwa’s parents wanted to take her to Germany immediately. However, it was not lawful, which triggered procedures in Poland and Germany.
The German Embassy rejected Marwa’s first request, but she was not deported. The case was joined by German activists, politicians, stars and celebrities who collected signatures for the legalization of her stay in Europe and publicized the case in the media. The “Wir packen’s an” association took part in the trial, admitting that Marwa is the first refugee from the Polish-Belarusian border to legally enter Germany. Marwa was finally taken from the hospital on December 21 by her parents and taken to the German embassy in Warsaw, where she applied for a visa.
