Machado requests a meeting of the opposition platform, including Rosales, to explore options in Venezuela

The theoretical unitary candidate of the opposition to the presidential elections in Venezuela, María Corina Machado, has requested a meeting of the entire Unitary Platform, to test the different options against the Chavista Nicolás Maduro, which involves the governor of the state of Zulia, Manuel Rosales, who was able to register his candidacy before the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Two of the parties that make up the Unitary Platform, Voluntad Popular and Primero Justicia, have assured on social networks that the request was presented on April 10, without Rosales having accepted or declined the request, on which Machado has not publicly commented either. .

The coordinator of Machado’s International Political Council, Antonio Ledezma, has clarified in statements to Europa Press that the politician has proposed meeting “with the entire Unitary Platform, including Rosales”, therefore ruling out that it will be a “separate” meeting between the two. .

“She supports the candidacy of Corina Yoris and the fight so that we have true competitive elections,” explained Ledezma, alluding to the replacement proposed in light of the maintenance of the political disqualification of Machado, winner of the October primaries.

Un Nuevo Tiempo, the formation led by the governor, however, wanted to “specify” that they have not received “any formal invitation”, beyond the “versions aired” on social networks. In any case, they have shown themselves willing to talk “frankly” with Machado.

“We insist that 105 days before the presidential election, it is urgent to find a solution that allows us to move forward without delay towards the great victory and the great reunion of the Venezuelan people,” Un Nuevo Tiempo highlighted on its account on the social network X.

The political disqualification decreed on Machado in mid-2023 and the decision of the Chavista authorities not to lift it forced the opposition to look at the last minute for a replacement, Corina Yoris, who was also unable to register within the period stipulated by the National Electoral Council (CNE). ), supposedly due to a blocking of the Unitary Platform cards.

The Platform managed to register a minor candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, with the hope of replacing him at some point, while the candidacy of Rosales, critical of Moduro but outside the main opposition bloc, was also forged in the last minutes before it concluded. the term.

“GUARANTEES” OF FAIR TRIAL

Ledezma has defended that Machado is a “deeply institutionalist” candidate and is “committed to reestablishing the rule of law.” In this sense, he has stated that, with it, there will be “guarantees” in judicial processes when there is a “profound change” and Maduro’s departure from power.

“There will be fair trials, investigation processes within the framework of due process, and not as is happening now,” said the former mayor of Caracas, who has warned that it is Maduro himself who is “cutting the throat” of former allies such as the former ministers Tareck el Aissami or Rafael Ramírez.
